Most people still long for romance and companionship, but marriage is on the decline in America. Many wonder why. What does it mean for individuals who are looking for love? What does it mean for our culture? And is the decline of marriage even something that we should be upset about?

Join us for a realistic look at the state of marriage in America, the difficulties and frustrations of looking for love, and what insights the Christian tradition can offer us for living (and loving) in DC today.

Grace Downtown Summer Picnic

Start your summer right with Grace Downtown’s annual Summer Picnic—a day of food, friends, games and (hopefully) beautiful weather. Everyone’s invited, so feel free to invite friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, pets, friends of pets, and even your roommates.

What to bring

Grace Downtown is providing the main dishes (burgers, hot dogs), but it’s up to everyone else to supply the rest. What to bring depends on when you were born:

Jan–Mar: Desserts
Apr–Jun: Beverages
Jul–Sep: Appetizers
Oct–Dec: Sides

Whatever you bring, try to bring enough for five or more people.

Get Involved

The summer picnic is always one of everyone’s favorite Grace Downtown events of the year, but making it so is a team effort. There are plenty of opportunities to help out, including

Setup/Greeting Team
Grill Transport Team
Grillmasters/Server Team
Cleanup Team
Loans of coolers and grill equipment
Carpool drivers

If you’d like to volunteer your time, your cooler, your grill, or your services as a carpool driver (or if you need a ride), contact Jonathan.

Enjoy the spring weather and our city’s beauty with some kayaking, organized by the Social Events Team. Meet at Jack’s Boathouse (3500 Water Street NW in Georgetown, under the Key Bridge) at 10am. Be our guest! All Grace Downtown members, attenders, and friends are invited to share a fun evening and home-cooked dinner with groups of 10-12 all over Washington, DC on Friday, April 27. Register online today.

Want to take Fourth Friday Dinner to the next level? Host or co-host! Dinners are typically hosted by 2 or 3 friends who provide a main dish and delegate side dishes, beverages, and desserts to their guests. If you have a DC apartment or house with enough space to crowd 8-12 around a table, you are perfect for the job! If you’d like to help cook or simply open your home, ask about co-hosting.
